Augusta National Makes Major Changes To Iconic Hole Ahead Of The Masters

Augusta National is home to a seemingly endless number of iconic golf holes.

There’s the Par 3 12th, which has ended dreams of winning The Masters for countless golfers. Or the Par 5 15th, which is the last real shot to vault yourself up the leaderboard with an eagle.

But one of the more underrated holes on the course is the Par 5 second, Pink Dogwood, which offers golfers a chance to start their round off on the right foot. Ahead of the 2024 Masters Tournament, however, the whole is set to undergo some significant changes.

Augusta National Lengthens Par 5 Second Hole Ahead Of 2024 Masters

The hole, which previously checked in at 575 yards, features a dogleg left and slopes downhill all the way from the tee box to the green. The second shot offers players an inviting opportunity to reach the green in the two and have a putt for eagle.

But Zephy Melton of Golf.com reports that it will have a slightly different look in 2024.

“The tee box of the par-5 second hole — named Pink Dogwood — is being moved back 10 yards and to the left,” Melton writes.”The change will make the scorecard yardage of the hole 585 yards, the longest on the course.”

Changes at Augusta National are nothing new.

The club unveiled lengthened the Par 5 13th hole by 35 yards and elevated the tee box by 24 feet just last year. But it’s the first time the second hole has changed since 1999.

The added length is obviously the most prominent change. But the additional tee box also changes the angle of attack on the drive. Golfers will now have to start their drives farther right while also avoiding the bunker on that side of the fairway.

Pink Dogwood played as the easiest hole on the course in 2023. That will likely be the case again in 2024. But the new changes make that far from a guarantee.
