You may have heard the expression “happy wife, happy life.” Well, the same notion applies for quarterbacks and offensive linemen. If the Big Uglies are happy, then everybody is happy.

Baker Mayfield understands the importance of that relationship.

During Cleveland’s 14-7 win over Minnesota on Sunday, left guard Wyatt Teller had his shoe come untied. The Browns were in the middle of a third quarter drive and Teller went down to a knee and started to re-lace his cleat.

Mayfield, who was about to get up to the ball, noticed his 6-foot-4, 315-pound guard’s predicament. Teller was wearing big, beefy gloves with a heavy tape job, while he was not.

In an act of sheer camaraderie, Mayfield waved Teller off and bent over to tie the shoe for him.

It was one of the more unique moments that you will see in football but it made it clear that Mayfield just gets it.

I love everything about this. Loving the Big Uglies as well as you love yourself, if not better, is the key to football and, in a metaphoric sense, life.
