The sad, strange saga of UFC Hall of Famer B.J. Penn has taken another twist as a judge ordered him to leave the home he shares with his mother Lorraine Shin. The judge also extended a temporary restraining order against Penn that was previously granted to Shin.

B.J. Penn, arguably one of the greatest mixed martial artists in history, has struggled the past few months with distinguishing reality from fantasy. In March, Penn posted footage of his mother that he claimed was an imposter, as well as videos claiming CTE is fake, and that all the billionaires in the world are government actors. In April, he claimed in a series of social media posts that his family had been “murdered and replaced with imposters.”

Then in May, B.J. Penn was pulled out of his bed and arrested after a protective restraining order filed by Penn’s ex Shealen Uaiwa was approved by a judge. That restraining order, which also includes two children, runs through March 10, 2030. Penn was then arrested two more times over the span of the next six days, once on charges of abuse and a second time for failing to appear in court.

This week, MMA Fighting reports, a judge ordered B.J. Penn to Penn to leave the home he shares with his mother “immediately.” He was also ordered to stay at least 100 feet away from her at all times and at least 100 yards away from her home or place of employment. The restraining order granted to his mother will now not expire until Nov. 23, 2025.

“I believe my son [B.J. Penn] is suffering from Capgras delusional syndrome [a psychiatric disorder in which a person holds a delusion that a friend, spouse, parent, other close family member has been replaced by an identical imposter],” Shin told police, MMA Fighting reported. “He believes I’m an imposter who has killed his family to gain control of the family assets. In the best interest for my safety, I ask the court for a six month [temporary restraining order] and have my son ordered to get medical treatment or other source of therapy.”

The now 46-year-old Penn was just the second person in UFC history to win titles in multiple weight classes and the first non-Brazilian to win the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship at black belt level. Sadly, he finished his MMA career on a seven-fight losing streak, going 1-9-1 in his final 11 fights after a 15-5-1 start.
