Golfer next to car that crashed into the pro shop at Brae Burn Country Club
Working in the pro shop of a country club tends to be a pretty cushy gig and one that doesn’t typically come with any serious hazards. However, two employees at a course outside of Boston were lucky to walk away with minor injuries after a car barreled through the wall right behind the desk where they were standing.
Golfers are much less predisposed to injuries compared to people who play sports that are defined by significantly more physical exertion and intensity.
It’s possible to end up in the hospital due to things going awry on the course, although the majority of incidents involve being in the wrong place at the wrong time when someone (hopefully) belts out a “FORE!” and mishaps involving golf carts.
However, there’s not much to worry about when you’re posted up in the pro shop, a place where entitled golfers with inflated egos tend to top the list of the biggest concerns.
However, a couple of people who were working at one in Massachusetts over the weekend encountered a “Wrong Place, Wrong Time” moment of their own while enduring a harrowing accident.

There’s no shortage of golf courses to pick from in the Boston area, including a number of private country clubs that cater to the region’s more affluent residents.
That includes Brae Brun Country Club in the wealthy suburb of West Newton, which has been open since 1897 and features an 18-hole course designed by Donald Ross. Its pro shop is located in the shadow of a massive clubhouse, and that first building will need to undergo some renovations due to what unfolded there on Saturday.
According to NBC Boston, two employees were working behind the desk of the pro shop in the afternoon when a white Mercedes accelerated between two golf carts outside of the building before driving straight through the wall, knocking them to the ground.

I hope those two employees are OK. Looks like a tragedy was avoided by mere inches.

The workers (and the driver) were hospitalized with minor injuries that the Newton Police Department described as “non-life-threatening.” The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but police believe the person in the vehicle managed to step on the gas pedal while trying to brake and have no reason to think alcohol was involved.
This isn’t the first time a rogue vehicle has caused an unexpected issue at Brae Burn. In 2021, an SUV got stuck on the tee box on the opening par-4 after a driver followed what they asserted were faulty GPS directions.
