Former Portland Trailblazers guard Brandon Roy risked his own life to save those of the children around him during a shooting in the Los Angeles this weekend.
Roy was reportedly outside his grandmother’s home when someone began shooting. Roy was shot in the leg while shielding children that were near him.
Former NBA All-Star Brandon Roy was shot in the leg outside his grandmother’s house near Los Angeles, a person with knowledge of the situation told USA TODAY Sports’ Sam Amick.
Someone opened fire randomly outside his grandmother’s house, and he was shielding some of the kids who were there, the person said.
Roy was treated in Southern California, but has already returned to Washington state while he recovers, according to King5 TV in Seattle. The incident happened over the weekend according to the outlet.
Roy, who had his career cut short due to injury, is currently a high school basketball coach and led his team to a state title in his first year coaching the team.
