Brian Schottenheimer is facing the blame for the Cowboys' 2-4 start
The Dallas Cowboys seem to be living through the same season again, as their 2026 campaign has been a roller coaster of ups and downs. After Sunday night’s loss to the Green Bay Packers, Dallas now sits at 2-4.
While the M.O. for the Dallas Cowboys in recent years has been to be let down by their defense, it was the offense that was the culprit against the Packers on Sunday night as it mustered just seven points through the first three quarters of the game.
Dallas also trailed 17-0 at halftime and was shut out in the first half for the first time since 2021, and scored a season-low 13 points. Quarterback Dak Prescott went 34 of 54 for 258 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.
Former Jets receiver Braylon Edwards blamed Brian Schottenheimer’s play-calling for the Jets’ AFC Championship losses in 2009 and 2010
Adding insult to injury was former New York Jets wide receiver Braylon Edwards, who played under Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer while with Gang Green.
“Watching the @dallascowboys struggle two weeks in a row reminded me of why we as a Jets offense were terrible in back-to-back AFC Championship Games in ‘09’ and ‘10’….mid OC by the name of Brian Schottenheimer,” Edwards posted on social media.
Schottenheimer was New York’s offensive coordinator for both games — the Jets lost 30-17 to the Colts in 2009 and 24-19 to the Steelers in 2010.
On WFAN in 2019, he said the two had “no love lost,” and he reportedly accused Schottenheimer last year of playing it safe and drawing up fewer plays for him in the 2010 loss.
As one Jets fan pointed out, however, Edwards’ recollection of those AFC championships seems to be a bit of selective memory.
@OfficialBraylon @dallascowboys The offense wasn’t terrible in those AFC Championship Games.
Had 17 at the half vs Indy then lost shonn Greene and had no threat of a run game.
At Pittsburgh barely had the ball in the first half, scored 17 for the game anyway.

Schottenheimer, who was Dallas’ offensive coordinator in 2023 and 2024 before taking over as head coach, has not publicly responded, but said after Sunday’s loss that “mistakes are killing us.”
The Cowboys will look to get back in the win column in Week 7 when they take on the Philadelphia Eagles — whose season is also falling apart — on Monday Night Football.
