Brian Kelly is no longer the head football coach at LSU. He was fired shortly after a 49-25 loss to SEC rival Texas A&M.
Kelly met with his team one final time before leaving campus on Sunday. A somber video is now circulating social media as those affiliated with the school react.
Kelly’s exit was somewhat of a surprise given both past performance and the school’s financial obligation. The Tigers were 34-14 during the coach’s tenure, making one conference championship game.
He is also owed a reported $53 million in buyout money.
The decision comes amid massive struggles in 2025. The program entered the year with national title hopes and a Top 10 ranking. It is now 5-3 with those preseason goals largely out of reach.
Brian Kelly was fired.
The Tigers lost in blowout fashion to Texas A&M in Baton Rouge on Saturday. Those in attendance demanded Kelly be removed from his post.
Less than 24 hours later, those asks were met. The coach was relieved of his duties on Sunday. He addressed his team one final time on campus.

That meeting lasted 10 minutes. It was very brief. Kelly broke the news of his firing to his players. Then, he was gone.

Current players responded to Brian Kelly’s firing online. Most attempted to express their loyalty to the school, regardless of who’s leading the football program.
Former players, however, were happy to see the coach go.
Malik Nabers, who played two seasons under Kelly, told the coach to “kick rocks.”

Many associated with either LSU or Brian Kelly are not upset to see him go. They were ready for a change, despite the $53 million price tag.
Now, the program will set out to find a replacement. Kelly, meanwhile, will have a decision to make about his future.
