For many people watching WWE SummerSlam on Saturday, it appeared pretty obvious that Brie Bella had suffered what appeared to be a shoulder injury during her tag team match with Paige and her sister Nikki.
At various times throughout the match against Jacy Jayne, Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid, Brie Bella appeared to be favoring her right arm. She even held it tight to her body during the unexpected post-match celebration turned beatdown of Paige.
When asked about the injury during a post-show press conference on Saturday, Triple H said it “seems pretty bad.” On Sunday, Brie’s sister Nikki Bella also told a fan at an autograph session on Sunday (which Brie did not attend), “it’s not looking good.”
Brie Bella will be out for several weeks while she recovers
It turns out Brie Bella, 42, broke her scapula and had to be hospitalized after the match. She will now have to miss some time while she recovers.
“I wanted to thank you all for sending me all the love and warm wishes,” Brie Bella wrote on Instagram along with X-ray images of her shoulder. “When I was sitting in the hospital, I was reading everything you guys were sending my way, love you all!!!
“Unfortunately I’ll be out for a bit. I broke my scapula. If there’s one thing I know about my sister and I is that we don’t let broken bones stop us. Not sure how I finished that match, but I do believe between the adrenaline, passion for the business and the love for all the women I work with, it gave me the drive to finish.”
It appeared that Brie Bella suffered the scapula injury when Jacy Jayne flipped into her, pinning her shoulder to the steel stairs on the outside. Bella was visibly holding her right arm after the impact.
“Now my new journey starts!!” Brie continued in her Instagram post. “[Son] Buddy said he’s going to be my assistant, [daughter] Birdie‘s going to be my nurse and they both told me that [husband, Bryan Danielson] daddy is going to be my personal chef, so I am set!! if there is one thing I know about Brie Mode, she always finds a way to come back to her wrestling home. Let the recovery begin.”
