Brock Purdy has packed on a good bit of muscle ahead of his third season in the NFL. The starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers is jacked!

“Beefy” is another adjective that could be used to describe the 24-year-old signal-caller, in a good way.

Purdy, who led his team to the Super Bowl last year, was listed at 6-foot-1, 220 pounds during the 2023/24 season. That second number might have been rounded up by a few digits.

Either way, he looks like he is going to weigh in closer to 225 come training camp.

Purdy was recently down in Florida to workout with the guys at the CORTX Sports Performance facility. It is a comprehensive sports performance center that focuses on data and analytics.

Photos from one of his throwing sessions shows a significant offseason transformation. He has focused on agility and strength over the last few months and it appears as though the work is paying off!

Brock Purdy is not a big guy. Being able to put on additional muscle like he has will allow him to absorb more hits and play through contact. Of course, increased strength also creates more velocity and distance on his throws.

That is particularly interesting.

One of the biggest knocks on Purdy is his big-play ability. The critics call him a “game manager,” as if that is a bad thing. If this increased strength translates to his downfield passing, it will be a major boost to Kyle Shanahan’s ability to open up his offense. It’s not like Purdy couldn’t make the big throws before.

Adding even more strength will give him the ability to stay in the pocket another second or two longer, and to really deliver the deep ball into tight windows even more than he already does. Purdy’s offseason focus clearly paid off and it will be curious to see if it adds an extra edge.
