The Buffalo Bills have released an official update on safety Damar Hamlin, who remains hospitalized after he suffered from a cardiac arrest during the Monday Night Football game between the Bills and Cincinnati Bengals.

Hamlin, who collapsed following a tackle on Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins, had to be revived on the field with the use of CPR and an AED before being transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.

“Damar remains in the ICU in critical condition with signs of improvement noted yesterday and overnight. He is expected to remain under intensive care as his health care team continues to monitor and treat him,” the statement reads.

The Bills’ statement is in line with the update that was provided by family spokesman Jordan Rooney, who said on Wednesday morning that “doctors overnight got promising readings that they had been hoping to see this morning.”

Additionally, during an appearance on ESPN’s First Take on Wednesday morning, NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler said that the family of the 24-year-old Bills’ safety is “cautiously optimistic.”

On Tuesday, Hamlin’s family released a statement to express gratitude for all the support they’ve received while also asking for continued prayer.

“On behalf of our family, we want to express our sincere gratitude for the love and support show to Damar during this challenging time. We are deeply moved by the prayers, kind words, ad donations from fans around the country,” the family’s official statement reads.

“We also want to acknowledge the dedicated first responders and healthcare professionals at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center who have provided exceptional care to Damar. We feel so blessed to be part of the Buffalo Bills organization and to have their support. We also want to thank Coach Taylor and the Bengals for everything they’ve done.”

“Your generosity and compassion mean the world to us. Please keep Damar in your prayers. We will release updates as soon as we have them.”

Hamlin, 24, was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft after spending four years at the University of Pittsburgh. Since his life-threatening incident, Hamlin’s GoFundMe has gone from a few thousand dollars to over $6.5 million and counting at the time of this publication.

Our thoughts are with Hamlin’s friends, family, teammates, and various loved ones during this difficult time.
