BYU finally wrapped up its three-game college baseball series against UCF after a snowstorm caused a two-hour delay on Saturday afternoon. It made for the coolest backdrop in sports.
No other stadium in the country can provide such gorgeous views and the game was only possible because of a heating system installed under the turf!
The Cougars, currently 11-7, play the first month of their college baseball season on the road due to the cold weather in Provo. They returned home on the first weekend of March and welcomed the Knights to town this weekend. Games 1 and 2 were played as schedule without issue. Game 3 was going to be the same.
However, a brief snow squall arrived just moments before first pitch. UCF was right in the middle of batting practice when flurries started to fall.
Players were able to warm up their arms with a snowball fight in lieu of long toss.
The faux fireplace on the videoboard was a nice touch!

The fire on the videoboard is a nice touch, @BYUBaseball 😂🤝 https://t.co/laUIuHLiQE pic.twitter.com/8L1p2SDpB2
Most other college baseball programs would have to postpone or cancel the game. Not BYU! Miller Park was built with this kind of sudden weather system in mind.
The field has a state-of-the-art heating an drainage system installed underneath the synthetic turf. It allows for more practice time during the late fall and winter months. It also made Sunday’s rubber match playable.
The snow melting system can melt up to six inches of snow in one hour. The drainage system can drain up to 19 inches of water in one hour. I don’t know much anything about heating or drainage systems, but I am thoroughly impressed by that speed. And it really works!
Heaters doing their job 🔥

Although the snow was melted off of the turf, it did not melt off of the Rocky Mountains’ Wasatch Range. Thank goodness because the background is beautiful.
Update – We are targeting a 3 PM MT/5 PM ET first pitch! Shoutout to @BYUBaseball’s heated turf and the grounds crew for getting the field ready to go ⚾️ pic.twitter.com/d1hchaDLuG

Especially when the snow continues to fall during the game.

There is no better setting in college baseball, if not baseball as a whole, if not sports in general. BYU ultimately beat UCF in the 10th inning to win the series after a two-hour snow delay. Baseball weather!
