The Rock has confirmed that he is working on a project with legendary director Martin Scorsese. In a statement posted to social media, The Rock says he’s “grateful” for being in the midst of what he calls the most “creatively inspiring” period of his career.

Earlier this year, it was announced that The Rock, Emily Blunt and Leonardo DiCaprio were set to star in a Martin Scorsese-directed crime drama set in Hawaii, which was described by the trades as Goodfellas meets The Departed in the Aloha State.

On Instagram, The Rock confirmed that the project was in the works and expressed excitement about it.

“Grateful for what’s been the most creatively inspiring time of my career – working closely with my friends and of course, the maestro Marty Scorsese,” The Rock wrote on Instagram on Thursday, March 13.

“In the 60’s, 70’s & 80’s the mafia controlled New York, Miami, Chicago, Vegas, and a particularly strong hold on the island I was raised – Hawaii. Much more to come.”

The article about the project that The Rock shared revealed that he and his pal Emily Blunt brought the project to longtime collaborators Marty and Leo.

The Rock’s project with Scorsese and DiCaprio will continue a trend of The Rock making a turn into more serious projects as his next film, the Benny Safdie-directed Mark Kerr biopic The Smashing Machine, will be his first legitimately dramatic role in over a decade — Blunt, who first teamed with The Rock on 2021’s Jungle Cruise, stars in The Smashing Machine, too.

Scorsese’s last film was 2023’s Killers of the Flower Moon (Scorsese and Leo’s sixth movie together) and it’s unclear what his next movie will be as there have been multiple conflicting reports about what he’ll be working on next, ranging from another movie about Jesus to an adaption of Devil in the White City (or The Wager) to this reported project with The Rock.
