Carmelo Anthony‘s son, Kiyan Anthony, showed that he learned from the best at a recent NBPA prospect showcase, jacking up 39 shots.

Carmelo Anthony is, of course, a 19-year NBA veteran who is a surefire Basketball Hall of Famer after making 10 All-Star Game appearances.

But he also had a reputation as an indiscriminate chucker who had no issue taking as many shots as he wanted during games.

Anthony averaged over 20 field goal attempts in five different NBA seasons.

Now it appears that Kiyan, who is one of the top prospects in the high school class of 2025, according to 247Sports, is following in his dad’s footsteps.

Kiyan Anthony put up 35 points in a recent NBPA Top 100 showcase game, but he took a jaw-dropping 39 shots in order to do so. That works out to a 43.9 true shooting percentage. Even in his worst season, Carmelo had a true shooting percentage of 50.3.

For reference, Jordan Poole had a 52.9 true shooting percentage for the Washington Wizards this past season.

Kiyan Anthony Could Follow In Carmelo’s Footsteps In College

So efficiency isn’t really Kiyan’s thing at this point. But he’s still plenty talented.

“Since the spring, Anthony has blossomed and continued to shine not only as a scorer with deep range but also as a playmaker in a stacked 2025 class,” Tobias Bass of The Athletic wrote in May of 2023. “So far for Team Melo — a youth basketball program focused on college recruitment — Anthony is averaging 15.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. He has struggled with efficiency — making 37.6 percent of his field goals and 26.4 percent from 3.

“What’s been the most impressive is his ability to create for others as he leads Team Melo in assists with 30 against only 10 turnovers. Not to mention he leads his team in steals with 12.”

Anthony holds scholarship offers from several of the nation’s top programs. Though his father’s alma mater, Syracuse, appears to lead the way.
