Former NFL quarterback Chad Kelly, known for being the nephew of Buffalo Bills Hall of Famer Jim Kelly, has become the highest-paid player in the Canadian Football League.

At the age of 29, Kelly secured a three-year contract worth $1.865 million, according to Justin Dunk of 3downnation.

Chad Kelly’s journey to CFL stardom began in 2017 when he was selected as the last pick in the NFL Draft, earning him the dubious title of “Mr. Irrelevant.” He initially entered the NFL with the Denver Broncos and later played for the Indianapolis Colts from 2017 to 2020.

During the 2023 CFL season, Kelly threw for 16 touchdowns and 7 interceptions while passing for a total of 2,402 yards.

As part of his CFL deal, Chad Kelly is set to receive a substantial $250,000 signing bonus in 2024. However, there is a stipulation that could affect this bonus: If Kelly signs with an NFL team between December 2023 and February 2024, the bonus will be invalidated.

Chad Kelly’s CFL career began in 2022 when he signed with the Toronto Argonauts.

While the CFL may not garner the same level of attention and excitement as the NFL, Chad Kelly’s journey from Mr. Irrelevant to the highest-paid player in Canada serves as a testament to his determination to continue his football career.
