The Champions Tour is set to tee off on Friday at the Timuquana Country Club in Jacksonville, Florida and it appears if someone tried to sabotage the event before it started. There’s simply no other explanation for what happened than ‘sabotage’ after surveying the damage.
The Constellation Furyk and Friends event is Jim Furyk’s Champions Tour tournament. Jim is one of the most well-liked golfers in the industry. It is hard to imagine what drove someone to mutilate four greens overnight at Timuquana Country Club.
Casey Bannon shared images of the damage on X, formerly known as Twitter, and this isn’t water damage or failure to repair divots. It is evident that someone sought to sabotage the event:
I’m hearing that four greens were destroyed overnight at Timuquana CC in Jacksonville. Unclear as to how or why.

Bannon followed those photos up with a message that help was on the way. The grounds crew at nearby TPC Sawgrass have reportedly joined forces with Timuquana CC to fix the greens. He wrote “Hearing that the agronomy team from TPC Sawgrass is pitching in to help TCC get this ready for tomorrow. The grounds crew at Timuquana is absolute first class and I wouldn’t be surprised if they have it ready for play.”
According to Mia O’Brien of 1010XL radio in Jacksonville, the community quickly assembled to fix the damage. She reports the agronomy teams from TPC Sawgrass and MacCurrach Golf joined forces to have the greens repaired on Thursday morning, less than 24 hours before Jim Furyk‘s Champions Tour event tees off.
O’Brien shared on X “Per PGA Tour rep: Jeff Plotts & @TPCSawgrass agronomy team, as well as MacCurrach Golf were on-site at Timuquana within an hour of hearing about the green destruction. Timuquana crew also ready for action, given renovations of late. ”
No Laying Up shared an image of the green after being repaired. Suffice it to say the three grounds crews working in tandem performed a miracle on the vandalized greens:
At this point, it is unclear who caused the damage or why. Based on the damage, it does not appear to have been some neighborhood kids causing trouble. Especially when the timing is considered, on the eve of Jim Furyk’s Champions Tour event. Presumably, police will have a lead very soon on who caused the damage and why.
