Los Angeles Chargers Coach Brandon Staley Gets Clowned After 63-21 Defeat

Coming into Thursday night’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers coach Brandon Staley was already a dead man walking in terms of his job security. I’m not sure what’s worse than dead man walking, but that’s what his status is right now.

The Chargers were beaten 63-21 in a game that was much more embarrassing than that score. I’m not sure that it’s ever been more obvious that a coach is going to get fired in league history.

It was an absolute clowning from the start. The Raiders were up 21-0 twelve minutes in after consecutive Chargers snaps ended in fumbles recovered by Las Vegas. It never really got better, and it was 42-0 at half.

At this point, everyone could not take their eyes off one of the great train wrecks in NFL history. It got as bad as 63-7 at one point, and the Chargers didn’t look particularly invested in playing hard at all.

Despite the team having a ton of talent and a franchise quarterback in Justin Herbert, Brandon Staley is just 24-24 over the past three seasons. He’s famous for risky decisions spectacularly backfiring, and he oversaw the Chargers blowing a 27-0 lead in the AFC Wild Card Round to the Jacksonville Jaguars last year.

It’s over for Staley. It was over before tonight. To be honest, losing tonight would have been fine, as Justin Herbert is out for the season with an injury. But, getting embarrassed on national television like that is unacceptable.

There are so many good Brandon Staley memes right now. Here are some of the best.

It’s ok, Chargers fans, enjoy the memes. They sit at 5-9 and will mercifully only have to play three more football games this year.
