South Dakota State quarterback Chase Mason has always been strong. However, the rising senior is slated to take over as the starter in 2025 and spent his entire offseason in the weight room after getting left behind by his former head coach.

The Jackrabbits are jacked!

Mason, a native of the Mount Rushmore State, committed to play at SDSU over one other FBS scholarship offer from Fresno State. Although his decision paid off in a big way because he won back-to-back FCS national championships in 2022 and 2022, he spent most of his time on the bench.

That could change during the upcoming college football season. Former head coach Jimmy Rogers left for the same job at Washington State during the offseason and did not even call Mason to discuss the possibility of a transfer. The 37-year-old left his backup quarterback behind in Brookings.

Chase Mason is fueled by the snub!

Not only is Rogers gone, Mark Gronowski is off to Iowa. Mason will compete with St. Thomas transfer James Tateoka for the starting job during spring ball and fall camp and it is his job to lose.

Chase Mason is listed on the roster at 6-foot-4, 230 pounds. He has always been a strong guy with large arms and shoulders like boulders.

This year is different. With a QB1 role in his sights, Mason went even harder in the weight room over the last few months. He honestly looks more like a linebacker than a quarterback!

The rising senior recently served in the lead position for South Dakota State’s tug-of-war. His arms were popping and his legs are the size of tree trunks.

Raw strength does not always translate to success as a quarterback. He has to be able to make the right reads and throw the ball to an open receiver. With that being said, Chase Mason is just as valuable as a runner as he is as a passer. Opponents are going to have a very hard time bringing him down!

He is just as big, if not bigger, than the FCS defenses that will try and tackle him. A big year is in store.
