FCS Quarterback Brutally Rejects Washington State After His Head Coach Left Him In South Dakota

Chase Mason Transfer Washington State

South Dakota State quarterback Chase Mason does not want to play for Washington State. He brutally rejected the idea with one simple word on social media— no.

The former three-star recruit made it abundantly clear that he not going to follow his former head coach to Pullman.

Mason, a native of the Mount Rushmore State, committed to the most dominant in-state program over one other FBS scholarship offer from Fresno State. His decision paid off in a big way because he Jackrabbits won an FCS national championship in 2022 and 2023.

However, Mason spent most of his first four seasons as the backup. With Mark Gronowski off to Iowa as a graduate transfer, the time is now. He should step right into the starting job in 2025.

Things are going to look very different in Brookings next year. Not only does Mason (probably) slide into the lineup, head coach Jimmy Rogers recently left to take the head coaching job at Washington State.

As is often the case in the modern era of college football, Rogers is expected to bring a few of his former players with him. There was some chatter that Mason could be one of them. Cougars star quarterback John Mateer recently transferred out so there is an opening at the most important position. Who better than the guy slated to take over at South Dakota State? He already knows the system and Rogers recruited Mason as his future starting quarterback just three years ago.

Not going to happen! Chase Mason immediately shot down the idea of transferring to Washington State when presented with the idea.

To be fair, we don’t know that Jimmy Rogers wanted his former backup quarterback to follow him in the first place. There is no indication that Mason was going to immediately take over the Cougars’ offense. Maybe that hypothetical situation was never a real option. Nevertheless— he’s not going anywhere!
