The Chicago Bears picked up a statement win on Monday night, going on the road and beating the defending champion Seattle Seahawks, 34-17. In the process, Bears star quarterback Caleb Williams also saved Bengals backup Joe Flacco a ton of money.

Williams completed 24-of-34 passes for 247 yards and one touchdown in what was a solid, but not exactly jaw-dropping, individual performance.

But just as notable as Williams’ play was his apparel. He continued to wear the Caddix cleats that had gotten him fined thousands of dollars in recent weeks.

The league fined Williams over $35,000 in Weeks 6 and 7 for wearing the cleats and proudly displaying the “unauthorized” Caddix logo. The NFL has exclusive deals with Nike, Adidas, and Under Armour for player gear. If a player wants to wear gear made by another brand, they must cover the logo.

Joe Flacco Offered To Pay Caleb Williams’ Fines For Wearing Caddix Cleats

Flacco, a long-time wearer of Caddix cleats, as well as an investor and advisor to the company, said this past week that he would pay any fines Williams continued to incur.

“This isn’t about making a statement or breaking the rules just to break them,” Flacco said of the decision. It’s about wearing gear that works for you and helps keep you safe on the field. If Caleb believes in Caddix the way I do, I’m happy to stand behind him.”

Thankfully for the 41-year-old, who has earned over $190 million in his career, that won’t be necessary.

Williams continued to wear the Caddix cleats against Seattle. However, this version of the cleats either had the logo removed or never had a logo on them to begin with.

In wearing the logoless cleats, Williams adhered to the NFL rules. That means that he won’t face a fine, and Flacco is no longer on the hook for tens of thousands of dolalrs.
