Houston Cougars defensive lineman Chidozie Nwankwo committed to play for Deion Sanders at Colorado on Monday afternoon. He appeared to show a gun and marijuana during a livestream that teased his decision.

The gun, or what appears to be a gun, could be registered. Weed is legal in quite a few states and it is unclear as to where exactly the video was filmed. It is also possible, as we know from Ja Morant, that the gun is actually a lighter.

All of this goes to say that there are a lot of uncertainties surrounding the image.

With that being said, @chidozie.nwankwo — the official account for the former Cougars standout and new Buffaloes commit — went live on Instagram earlier this week. Some cones and the grip of a handgun certainly seemed to be sitting on the nearby table under his left arm.

Here is how it looked in real time. The alleged accouterments come into the frame around the 53-second mark in the video below:

Nwankwo might have filmed the video at a friend’s house. The suspicious paraphernalia may belong to a roommate or someone he doesn’t know. It may not be what it looks like.

We don’t know.

However, based only on the short snippet from Nwankwo’s livestream, it appeared to show a gun and some grass. Either that, or a gun and some soon-to-be-rolled papers.

Regardless of the situation and the truth, for Nwankwo to subject himself to speculation is not ideal. He should have cleared the table before going live or kept the table out of sight.

Putting all of this gun and weed-based confusion aside, Deion Sanders and Colorado got a good one!

The 295-pound defensive lineman will bring size and experience to Boulder. He recorded 95 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, and five sacks in 41 career college football games at Houston.

There is zero doubt that Nwankwo will be a Day 1 starter for the Buffs.
