The one and only problem with Tom Brady signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was that his coveted No. 12 jersey was already owned by somebody else. That somebody else was wide receiver Chris Godwin, but now it has been reported that Godwin just handed the digits over for free.
Apparently, Godwin decided to give his number over to Brady out of ‘respect’ and didn’t even receive compensation for his actions.
For all the talk about what Chris Godwin might get from Tom Brady for No. 12 with the Bucs, there was no compensation. "Gave it to him out of respect," Godwin's agent, Tory Dandy, said. Impressive.

Sorry, but this seems like a completely missed opportunity for Godwin here. Now of course, I get it, Brady has six rings and is the greatest human to ever throw a football, yada yada yada, but come on, man, at the very least get a dinner from the GOAT, you know he can afford it.
Every year we hear about the gifts running backs get their offensive linemen and Christmas gifts players get one another, so why not ask for something in return when you have to give up your number? And yes, Godwin had to give up his number, imagine if he refused to do so and Brady couldn’t wear No. 12? I don’t care if he had over 1,300 yards receiving a year ago, his ass would be cut immediately.
I guess Godwin did get the gift of looking good in the public eye by just handing over No. 12, but that’s overrated. A new car, maybe even something as little as a new set of golf clubs or something lasts longer than some ‘cool publicity.’
