Normally, Hail Marys don’t come all the close to being completed for touchdowns. But, that was not the case on Thursday night, as what would have likely been a game-winning Hail Mary by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers wasn’t caught due to Chris Godwin not getting his head around.

Take a look at the play. With the Buffalo Bills leading 24-18, it would have been an absolutely backbreaking loss for the Buffalo Bills. Take a look.

Oh no, Chris Godwin! What are you doing. Get your head around! That’s such an out-of character mistake by Chris Godwin, who is one of the smartest wide receivers in the league. And, he’s got great hands, so I have no doubt he would’ve caught it had he got his head around and saw the ball.

Also, what a great Hail Mary attempt by Baker Mayfield. He avoids the pressure, steps up, and puts enough hair under the ball for his receivers to get down the field and into position to catch the pass. Sadly, Chris Godwin just couldn’t get his head around.

Mayfield was actually pretty good in the loss, and led a 90+ yard touchdown drive in the fourth quarter to give the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a chance.

The Buccaneers fall to 3-4, while the Bills escape with a win and are 5-3.
