I think it’s an understatement to say that American soccer fans are looking to Christian Pulisic to take USA/USMNT soccer into the future. I say it’s an understatement because I think the entire world expects this young soccer prodigy to become the first global soccer star from America.

I’m assuming you know who Pulisic is or you probably wouldn’t have clicked this article, but I’ll do a quick recap for those of you who don’t know much about him. He’s 20-years-old and from Hershey, Pennsylvania. He plays attacking midfielder at Borussia Dortmund in Germany where he’s been since 2015, and he’s played in the Bundesliga since 2016.

He’s the youngest non-German to ever score in the Bundesliga and he’s the youngest player to ever score 2 goals in a game in the Bundesliga. On January 2nd, Pulisic signed with Chelsea and will be leaving the Bundesliga after this season to play at one of England’s most prestigious clubs where he’s expected to eventually become the first global soccer superstar from America.

Despite having all the talent in the world, having proved himself in the Bundesliga, and getting paid $$$$, Pulisic has lost his job as a starter at Borussia Dortmund for much of this season due to injury and his replacement really coming on as a great player. Bu Pulisic was named a starter last night in Dortmund’s game against rival Werder Bremen.

Dortmund knows what they’ve got on their hands right now. Chelsea’s most exciting signing and the most popular player in America at the moment and they play right into it with tweets like this:

You came for the goal, right? Here’s Pulisic with an excellent run and an even better finish that culminates with him nutmegging the keeper by scoring right between his legs.

That goal gave Borussia Dortmund the 2-1 lead but the game was batshit crazy in stoppage time and both teams scored twice to finish 3-3 and send the game to penalty kicks where Werder Bremen eventually won and advanced in the tournament.

Christian Pulisic will join Chelsea this Summer after the Bundesliga season after becoming the most expensive American transfer in history with a fee of $73 million. As a Tottenham fan, I’m already having trouble wrapping my mind around how this signing is going to create a MASSIVE generation of Chelsea fans in America because it will be nearly impossible to root against him as an American soccer fan.
