Christo Lamprecht has been the story of the Open Championship through the opening round. The 22-year-old amateur finds himself atop the leaderboard on Thursday, sitting in a three-way tie for first place.

Lamprecht is doing everything necessary to stay in the mix. An impressive shot from early in his round is now going viral.

On the fourth hole, the South African landed in the bunker as he attempted to reach the green. He’d utilize his 6-foot-8 frame to get out of that sticky situation with little harm.

Straddling the bunker, he stood on his right leg while allowing his left leg to rest on the elevated ground surrounding the sand. Somehow, he was able to get his ball out safely.

“Good thing this man has a 38-inch seam,” the announcers proclaimed. His length certainly made the shot more achievable.

Fans online were quick to react.

“I would love to see John Daly do this,” one follower posted.

“One of the perks of being 6-foot-8 is being able to do this,” another tweet read.

“When 6-foot-8 is a real advantage,” someone else agreed.

The shot was just a part of his impressive showing thus far in Hoylake, England. His first-round 66 has him in a three-way tie with Tommy Fleetwood and Emiliano Grillo for the lead.

The Georgia Tech senior hopes to become the fourth amateur to win the Open Championship as he looks to join Bobby Jones, Harold Hilton, and John Ball.

The most recent instance came in 1930 at this very course.

While a number of veterans struggle at the unforgiving Royal Liverpool, Christo Lamprecht continues to shine. Hopefully, he can keep it up as the weekend progresses.
