The Indianapolis Colts are currently sporting a 3-8 record thanks in large part to Andrew Luck’s shoulder refusing to work and— in smaller part— the Colts’ seeming inability to hold a lead after the end of halftime (the team has somehow managed to blow four double-digit leads). Coach Chuck Pagano was asked about the latter at a press conference he gave on Monday when a reporter asked if repeatedly blown leads would have any effect on his players’ mentality.
Instead of giving an overly generic answer you might expect most coaches to give, Pagano decided to construct an elaborate metaphor comparing the Colts’ season to the Bill Murray classic Groundhog Day. While it kind of made sense, it nevertheless sort of came off as the ramblings of a crazy person, but I guess it’s easy to become a bit unhinged after having to deal with everything Pagano has this season.

He started his answer with a half-hearted rendition of “I’ve Got You Babe” before describing the ways Murray attempted to kill himself (which included driving a car into a tarpit and falling off of a building). It didn’t take Pagano long to realize some of the reporters might not be familiar with the movie, so he quickly clarified in an attempt to make sure people didn’t think he was suicidal.
While Pagano seemed to remember more about the movie than most people in the room, he did end up mistaking the blizzard in the film for a hurricane. However, it appeared whoever asked the question was more than satisfied with the answer, which means he must have done something right.
