The Coastal Carolina football team took down Appalachian State on Saturday in Sun Belt action, 45-37. The Chanticleers disrespectfully celebrated on their rival’s home field after the fact.

A flag was planted at midfield. Tempers flared soon thereafter.

There is no love lost in this college football rivalry. Despite this being just the 12th all-time meeting, the Chants and Mountaineers do not like one another.

That was seen the last time these two foes faced off in Boone, North Carolina. Coastal Carolina won the game. Appalachian State fans threw beer cans at opposing players, some of which were then picked up and slugged by CCU offensive linemen.

“They don’t like us. We don’t like them,” said coach Tim Beck earlier this week on the rivalry. That was more than evident in the most recent meeting.

Coastal Carolina’s football team beat Appalachian State.

For a second straight time, the Chanticleers took down the Mountaineers on their home field. It was Coastal’s fourth consecutive win in the series.

The Chants rallied from a two-touchdown second half deficit to send their rival packing. They outscored the Mountaineers 21-3 over the final 15:04 of play.

Coastal Carolina took its first lead of the game with just over three minutes remaining. It added to it about a minute later to seal the victory.

The Chanticleers disrespected App State.

Coastal Carolina football players went back and forth with the home fans after the contest. They then took to midfield to add fuel to the fire.

Video of the Chants planting a flag on the Appalachian State logo began floating around social media. The Mountaineers did not take kindly to the disrespect.

Players from both sides met up at the 50-yard line. Pushing and shoving ensued before they were separated.

Emotions were high after yet another close rivalry matchup. Four of the last five meetings have been decided by one score.

Coastal Carolina continued its recent dominance in the series and impolitely celebrated. App State will hope to return the favor in Myrtle Beach next year.
