Colin Cowherd is the type of person that attaches himself to certain athletes and sticks with them no matter what and Carson Wentz is one of his guys. On the opposite side of things, he’s been negative toward Baker Mayfield for quite some time now, it’s almost at the point now that if Mayfield led the Browns to a Super Bowl, Cowherd still wouldn’t tip his cap to the QB.
His love for Wentz is a bit of an interesting one and on a recent episode of ‘The Herd’, he took things to the next level. Cowherd said that he would take Wentz over all but two other NFL quarterbacks: Patrick Mahomes and Russel Wilson, thus making him the third-best QB in the NFL at the moment.
Co-host Joy Taylor introduced a segment called ‘Wentz or the Fence’ in which Cowherd had to compare Wentz to 13 other start quarterbacks around the league. He gave the nod to Wentz in 11 of the 13 scenarios.
While taking Mahomes and Wilson over Wentz is understandable, you’re probably wondering what he said about reigning MVP Lamar Jackson. To his credit, he was a bit on the fence on this debate.
“Wentz now, but n a year, I may not say that,” Cowherd explained. “As much as we see Lamar do his stuff, you still have to throw a ball in the pocket, and I do believe if you’re asking me to read the entire field, sit in the pocket, and carry no weapons, Wentz can do that.”
That wasn’t the only interesting quote that Cowherd dropped, when comparing him to Mahomes he explained that the Kansas City quarterback “is a better version of Carson Wentz,” but was quick to point out that Wentz will be a Hall-of-Famer.
