- Bill Belichick is the greatest coach in NFL history because he’s the only one with 8 Super Bowl rings and the rest of the field is chasing him
- Colin Cowherd has said controversial things in the past but he is already laying the groundwork to call an NFL coach other than Bill Belichick the GOAT despite that coach only having 2 rings

Bill Belichick is the greatest coach in NFL history. I’m not a Patriots fan and have no reason to defend Belichick’s legacy and frankly there’s no need to defend it because the numbers don’t lie. Bill is the only person in NFL history to have 8 Super Bowl rings (6 as head coach and 2 as defensive coordinator).
The fact that Bill Belichick has more rings than anyone in NFL history (coaches, players, owners, etc) didn’t stop Colin Cowherd from laying the groundwork to call another NFL coach the GOAT on The Herd. He stops short of saying Bill isn’t the greatest of all time but he uses the recent success of another coach and Bill’s struggles in the past 3 years as evidence that Bill might not be the best.
Here’s the segment where Colin Cowherd starts laying the groundwork for a future where he describes Andy Reid as the greatest of all-time, not Bill Belichick.
Colin Cowherd Sounds Prepared To Call Andy Reid The G.O.A.T. Over Bill Belichick
Andy Reid in last 3 years: 38-11
Bill Belichick in last 3 years: 29-20"Don't be surprised if you look at Andy's last 10 years and Belichick's and there aren't arguments to be made on who we're calling the greatest coach of all time." — @ColinCowherd pic.twitter.com/FD9Mu246Kt

Let’s take a look at the numbers here. Colin Cowherd points out that Andy Reid is 38-11 in the past 3 years while Bill Belichick is 29-20. Belichick currently has 290 wins and Reid has 233. Bill is 69 years old and Andy is 63, so let’s assume that Andy would coach a few years after Bill retired. He’d still need to make up 57 wins on their current gap.
Andy Reid has 2 Super Bowl rings. Two. There’s an entire Wikipedia page dedicated to Super Bowl rings and who has the most and the list cuts off at ‘three’ because there are so many people with 2 rings it would be foolish to include all the names. And there is only ONE person in NFL history with 8, Bill Belichick. So Andy will need 6 more rings just to tie that record.
Here’s a stat that is pretty illuminating in a head-to-head comparison. Bill Belichick has made 19 playoffs appearances (tied for 1st with Don Shula) while Andy Reid has made 17 playoffs appearances (4th all-time). They are pretty darn close so you’d think their numbers of playoffs wins would also be pretty close, right??? Bill Belichick has 31 career Playoffs Wins while Andy has 18 in just 2 fewer Playoffs appearances. Belichick’s winning percentage in the NFL playoffs is .705 compared to Andy’s at .545.
How on earth are we having a ‘let’s look at the numbers in a few years’ conversation when Andy Reid would have to start coaching out of his MIND into his 70s and possibly 80s before he caught Bill’s records?
The better Colin Cowherd segment would be asking fans to live in the moment and appreciate the greatness of Bill Belichick while he’s still in the league.
