The NCAA transfer portal is wide open as the NCAA baseball season creeps closer to its conclusion. A number of star players have already entered. Their phones have been ringing non-stop.

A few of those college baseball girlfriends have become annoyed with the never-ending barrage of texts and calls. They’ve turned to social media to voice their frustrations.

A TikTok trend has taken over the internet in recent weeks. Videos of new transfers fielding boatloads of phone calls while their bored girlfriends stand alone to the side have gone viral.

The significant others are left to entertain themselves while watching their boyfriends’ cells ring off the hook. Iowa pitcher Sam Hart made the decision to enter the portal in late May. His girlfriend posted her perspective of the days that followed.

Princeton softball star Abby Hornberger shared her POV experience on TikTok around that same time. She was NOT having fun!

Louisiana pitcher Matthew Holzhammer also hit the portal this offseason. He’s apparently been talking to perspective coaches more than his better half.

@kasedi_09 talks to coaches more than he talks to me 🙂 @Matthew Holzhammer #transferportal #d1baseball #collegebaseball #recruiting #greenscreenvideo ♬ Funny – Gold-Tiger

It’s become an epidemic!!

TikTok’s ‘Transfer Portal Boyfriend’ trend isn’t reserved for just players.

College baseball coaches are impacted by the portal, too – and so are their significant others! UC Irvine assistant Daniel Bibona recently starred in a “POV: The NCAA Transfer Portal Is Open” clip. His wife, Kirsten, can’t even get him to sit down at the table for dinner.

Unlike the players, Bibona is on the phone making the calls, not receiving them. Still, it’s a task that’s apparently taking up all of his time!

The transfer portal has become an absolute monster in terms of recruiting and roster management. Hundreds, if not thousands, of players will be moving programs this offseason.

Many will look for a step up in competition. Others are looking for more playing time. Some just want a fresh start. Whatever the case, someone is destined to show interest.

The college baseball transfer portal is a revolving door. It’s been a somewhat unwelcomed recruiting speedbump for coaches as keeping lineups intact becomes more and more difficult. It’s now become an annoyance to girlfriends of both players and staff members!

Expect the viral TikTok trend to continue so long as the portal remains open. It’s set to close on July 1st for most players.
