While there are set to be plenty of changes in regards to the 2020 college football season, one thing remains constant and that is preseason rankings and every college football fan overreacting to them.
On Thursday, the first preseason coaches poll was revealed. The only purpose of these rankings is to get people excited for the upcoming season, that’s it because these rankings mean nothing now and will mean nothing at the end of the season, but it’s part of the college football experience.
You may be someone who doesn’t even pay attention to the rankings, or maybe you’re like me and you get upset for about 3.7 seconds that your school isn’t among the Top 25 but then realize your school’s football team stinks and doesn’t deserve to be.
Nevertheless, here is your preseason coaches poll:
- Clemson
- Ohio State
- Alabama
- Georgia
- LSU
- Oklahoma
- Penn State
- Florida
- Oregon
- Notre Dame
- Auburn
- Wisconsin
- Texas A&M
- Texas
- Michigan
- Oklahoma State
- USC
- Minnesota
- North Carolina
- Utah
- UCF
- Cincinnati
- Iowa
- Virginia Tech
- Iowa State
There aren’t really too many surprises here. You could probably make an argument for Alabama to be in the No. 2 spot over Ohio State, but that’s about the only questionable moves among the Top 5. Oregon and Notre Dame being ranked No. 9 and 10, respectively, could be a bit of a head-scratcher for some, but those two schools are in those spots because of their names and history. Give it time, there will be some shuffling there.
In total, there are six SEC schools inside the Top 13 while the Big Ten has six schools inside the Top 25.
