Colorado fans have identified another potential cheap shot against one of their players from a recent matchup with Arizona State. The hit came on the final play of the game after the last seconds had ticked off the clock.

On the play, an ASU special teamer is seen leveling a CU player after the final whistle. The college football world is now debating whether the hit was dirty or not.

The Buffs left Tempe with a 27-24 victory, seeing kicker Alejandro Mata drill the game-winning field goal with just 12 seconds remaining in regulation. That gave the Sun Devils one last opportunity to win the game as Colorado had to kick off to ASU after taking the late lead.

The end of that play is now under scrutiny.

After the Arizona State ball carrier ran out of bounds, you see Cam Skattebo racing off the sidelines to take a Colorado player off his feet. The hit came well after the final whistle.

Many were quick to comment on the potential cheap shot, posting their replies on social media.

“This is a totally disgusting cheap shot… The hate/jealousy for the Buffs because of Coach Prime is ridiculous… wow!” said one person.

“Did Cam Skattebo think this was a live ball?… If not, this is the dumbest cheap shot ever,” responded another.

That last take could offer insight into what Skattebo was thinking.

If you’ll notice at the end of the play, that Colorado player picked up the ball after it was dropped on the field. Maybe the Arizona State player thought the play was still live.

Skattebo gave his perspective on the tackle with a response on X, formerly Twitter.

“Whistle wasn’t blown my man, no intent of hurting anyone,” he said. An honest mistake.

Colorado fans are sensitive to these cheap shots given the incident with Travis Hunter vs. Colorado State. He’s missed the Buffs’ last three games due to a lacerated liver as a result of an unnecessary hit, though he could return sooner than anticipated.

In this instance, a case could be made for either side. Hopefully, we’ll avoid any controversial plays in Colorado’s next game.
