Deion Sanders’ name has been tossed around as a one to watch as it relates to NFL openings. Most recently, he’s been linked to his former team, the Dallas Cowboys.

Sanders initially spurned the idea of a move to the next level. He’s been insistent on his desire to stay in Boulder and continue building the Colorado program.

Something seems to have changed over the last few weeks. Momentum has picked up on his supposed openness to accepting the Dallas job if offered.

NFL reporter Jordan Schultz called Sanders a “top candidate” to replace Mike McCarthy. ESPN’s Ed Werder took things a step further.

Regarding Deion Sanders: I’m being told that he would almost certainly accept if Jerry Jones offers to make him the next Cowboys head coach, that those around him are encouraging him to pursue it and that Jones is enamored with the idea.

In previous instances, Coach Prime has spoken on his commitment to Colorado. He’s nixed the NFL narrative to this point, as recently as being linked to the Raiders job this offseason. Still, noise continues to grow in regard to his interest in the Cowboys.

With his sons set to move on to the NFL, the timing makes sense. Jane Slater of NFL Network believes the school’s given him further reason to bail on the Buffs.

She suggests that Colorado is unwilling to provide Deion Sanders with more money to use for NIL and his coaching staff.

One thing to watch following Jerry Jones and his initial discussions with Deion Sanders. Two people with knowledge of the situation tell me Sanders approached Colorado AD Rick George Tuesday about additional money for NIL and his staff. He was met with resistance. The University of Colorado would neither confirm or deny the information when I reached out. Deion Sanders didn’t respond when reached multiple times for comment.

When first hired, it was reported that Colorado didn’t have the cash on hand to pay Sanders his salary. It’s now being reported that the Buffaloes aren’t ready to provide further commitment to the program despite recent success.

Prime previously shut down the suggestion of a “lifetime contract” offer despite his happiness in Boulder. Now, the fear is that the marriage will end after just two seasons.
