The NFL Draft has now come and gone. The 2024 NFL Draft will impact the league in ways that we could hardly fathom right now.

Just like every draft class, tracking the quarterbacks will be one of the biggest storylines as we move forward. And, that includes the situation in our nation’s capital, as the Washington Commanders selected LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels no. 2 overall.

It’s a big upside play for the Washington Commanders, who have been looking for a long-term answer as a starter at quarterback for decades now. That guy could be Jayden Daniels.

But, during the college football season, the guy that nearly everyone thought would be the second quarterback off the board was UNC’s Drake Maye.

Maye, a true junior, was a two-year starter at UNC. After a stellar sophomore campaign, his numbers and efficiency took a step back as a junior. A lot of that was due to the fact he had to work with essentially an entirely new cast of weapons.

Drake Maye eventually went no. 3 to the New England Patriots. But, it turns out that the Commanders didn’t even consider Drake Maye for their first-round pick!

I’m not sure how much I believe this report, though. Maybe it came down to Jayden Daniels and JJ McCarthy at the very end of the prospect. But, there’s no chance they didn’t do due diligence on Drake Maye as a first-round quarterback prospect.

Hopefully the Commanders don’t regret passing up Drake Maye in the years to come.
