Cutter Boley on the field during an Arizona State football game.
Cutter Boley was benched for the second straight week in Arizona State’s win over Kansas State last Saturday. Will he take the field again for the Sun Devils?
Kenny Dillingham was asked about his quarterback’s response to the demotion in a Monday press conference. He refused to comment.
It’s created attitude concerns from a player that’s lost the fanbase. His future with the program is now unclear.
Cutter Boley was benched after being booed.
The transfer quarterback signed with Arizona State after two years at Kentucky. He is the highest paid player on the Sun Devils’ roster.
Boley landed a $1.5 million NIL deal out of the portal. He has failed to live up to expectations.
The signal caller was named the starter at the beginning of the season. He took the first snap under center in a 70-7 win over Morgan State, throwing for 387 yards and six touchdowns. It’s been downhill since.
In the six appearances to follow, he’s thrown seven scores to five interceptions. The Sun Devils have been blown out by Texas A&M, Baylor, and Texas Tech.
During the loss to the Red Raiders, he was benched after throwing two first half interceptions. Arizona State was down 43-10 at halftime.
He was reinserted into the lineup last weekend following an injury to Mikey Keene. His stay on the field was short-lived.
Boley was sacked just before the end of the first half. Boos rained down from the stands despite the Sun Devils being ahead 14-10.
Cutter Boley, who entered the game after Mikey Keene went down with an injury, was sacked on ASU’s last play of the first half.
Boley was greeted with one of the loudest roars of boo’s I’ve ever heard immediately after it was announced he was in the game.

Boley would stay in the starting lineup for the third quarter before being replaced by freshman Jake Fette. In total, the transfer took 13 snaps across four drives. The Sun Devils were held scoreless on each.
Boley was sacked twice and completed just one of his five passes. Fette immediately entered to lead the offense to 14 fourth quarter points. He helped Arizona State overcome a late deficit to win, 28-17.
Will Boley take another snap?
Kenny Dillingham was asked how Cutter Boley is handling the quarterback changes ASU has made.
His response: “No comment.”

Head coach Kenny Dillingham was asked about the passer’s response to being benched in consecutive weeks. He offered no response.
Maybe he was protecting his quarterback, although he could’ve easily offered up some coach speak rather than dismiss the question entirely. His silence has created concerns surrounding Boley’s attitude and future.
Has he quit on the team? Does he disagree with the coaching staff’s decision? Will he play again at Arizona State?
I don’t have the answers to those questions. For what it’s worth, he was seen congratulating Fette after a touchdown drive on the sidelines Saturday.

Cutter Boley’s demotion appears to be permanent. He is now third on the depth chart. Mikey Keene will take the first snap next week against BYU if healthy. Jake Fette will be his backup, according to Dillingham.
Boley joined the program with the expectation of being the starter throughout the season. He has now fallen to third string while losing the fanbase in an eight-week span.
Dillingham’s silence on his attitude suggests he’s not taking the demotion well. It could signal a breakup at season’s end.
