The fall for Kemba Walker over the past few years has been a steep one.

Last season was a mess for the former All-Star point guard.

He played just 37 games for the Knicks after the team reached an agreement with him to just keep him on the sidelines starting in February. During the offseason, the Knicks made some big moves to be able to offer up draft capital to whatever team would take on his salary so they could free up cap space.

That team ended up being the Detroit Pistons, who ended up waiving Walker before the start of the 2022-23 season.

After being released by the Pistons, Walker ended up signing a one-year deal with the Dallas Mavericks at the end of November.

His time in Dallas got off to a great stat. In his first appearance for the team, Walker played 42 minutes and scored 32 points while adding 7 assists and 5 rebounds against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

He maintained a role in the team’s rotation over their next couple of games, but quickly found himself back on the bench.

Now ESPN’s Tim McMahon is reporting that the Dallas Mavericks are releasing Walker less than a month after that performance against the Cavaliers.

It has only been a couple of seasons since Walker made his last All-Star appearance, but his decline has been steep since then. The Knicks struggled throughout last season and still didn’t believe he could help by the midway point of the season.

He has now had 3 teams get rid of him since the summer and it is unclear where exactly he may find meaningful playing time next.

Hopefully wherever he lands he’ll be able to carve himself out a role.
