Just about a week and a half after suffering a cardiac arrest on the field in a game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin is officially heading home.

After being transported from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center to a hospital in Buffalo, the 24-year-old Hamlin has been released and will continue his rehab at home and with the Bills.

“Damar Hamlin has been discharged from Buffalo General Medical Center/Gates Vascular Institute, a Kaleida Health facility in Buffalo, NY,” the team’s official statement begins.

“Hamlin was admitted on Monday and went through a comprehensive medical evaluation as well as a series of cardiac, neurological and vascular testing on Tuesday. Jamie Nadler, MD, critical care physician and Chief Quality Officer at Kaleida Healthy, and the care team lead for Hamlin said, ‘We have completed a series of tests and evaluations, and in consultation with the team physicians, we are confident that Damar can be safely discharged to continue his rehabiliation at home and with the Bills.”

Hamlin’s release from the hospital marks an incredible return to health for Hamlin, who had to be revived on the field with the use of CPR and an AED just nine days ago. While Hamlin was in the hospital recovering, his GoFundMe page went nationally viral and saw donations grow from a few thousand dollars to over $8.5 million.

The Buffalo Bills — the AFC East champions and the #2 seed in the AFC who entered the year as the betting favorites to win the Super Bowl — will begin their postseason journey this weekend when they host the Tua Tagovailoa-less Miami Dolphins on Sunday, January 15 at 1 p.m. EST.
