The marriage between the Cleveland Browns and Baker Mayfield is all but through.

The team’s former No. 1 overall pick has had his differences this offseason with the organization, which were only compounded by the Browns’ addition of quarterback Deshaun Watson. That move marked the end of Mayfield’s starting role under center for Cleveland and should mean he’s going to be on the move this offseason.

Now, the only thing left to do is get rid of the dead weight.

The Browns will be looking to trade the Heisman winner away prior to the start of 2022, as both sides are unhappy with where the relationship has ended up.

There were thought to have been some possible suitors for Mayfield in what was a very busy NFL quarterback market this offseason, but no one pulled the trigger.

Instead, we saw Russell Wilson, Carson Wentz, Mitchell Trubisky, and Matt Ryan all find new homes while Mayfield remains stuck in Cleveland.

And with no one biting on Mayfield, the Browns might have to deal the former top pick for less than originally planned.

For that reason, NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky believes that a deal for Mayfield in the upcoming draft will provide a team with the steal of the offseason.

Dan Orlovsky Says Baker Mayfield Will Be The Steal Of The Draft

Orlovsky appeared on ESPN’s Get Up on Monday morning to discuss the possibility of a team trading for Baker Mayfield in the draft. Here’s what he had to say.

“I think Baker Mayfield walks away as the steal of the NFL Draft. I think of two things. Number one, what would this conversation be like if Baker Mayfield did not get hurt? Or, when he did get hurt, sit out and get the surgery and not try to play through that injury?

“The reality is the vantage points. Are you looking at Baker Mayfield as the player from 2021 or 2020? The last time we saw him healthy in 2020, he was top 10 in QBR. He led the Browns to the playoffs with a defense that was bottom 10 in the NFL.

“If teams are going to look at Baker Mayfield through the vantage point of 2021, that’s on them because he was playing with multiple injuries… But if you’re looking at him through the lens of 2020… and you want a quarterback and say, ‘I’m gonna trade a 4th round pick for a guy that, four years ago, was the No. 1 pick of the draft…’

“Baker Mayfield has a chance to walk away as the steal of the NFL Draft.”

Orlovsky is throwing 2021 completely out the window.

Mayfield played hurt for the majority of the season, and he never quite looked comfortable under center. But if a team can get the 2020 version of Mayfield at a low price, then it will wind up being deal of the draft.

We’ll see how it all plays out over the coming days. The NFL Draft might be Mayfield’s best opportunity to get off the trading block.
