What once looked like a friendly rivalry between Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler has since turned bitter.

The two UFC stars are squaring off with one another as coaches of The Ultimate Fighter season 31 and while there once appeared to a be mutual respect between the two, it now seems that is gone.

Chandler and McGregor are set to fight one another following the completion of the season. Though McGregor must first spend six months in USADA’s drug testing pool before re-entering the Octagon.

The Irish superstar recently filed paperwork in order to re-enter the pool. He has not fought in the UFC since July of 2021 and underwent a significant physique change while out of the testing pool.

But now it appears he’s back. And UFC president Dana White is eager to set a date for the fight between he and Chandler. White revealed more about a potential fight date over the weekend.

“That’s correct [there will be an announcement during the airing of The Ultimate Fighter],” White said at the UFC Vegas 73 post-fight press conference. “There’s a fight. He has to get into the USADA pool first. He’s filling out the paperwork. I don’t know how soon that will be done or what’s going on, but that’s his business, that he’s handling with USADA. But it’s all in motion.”

White then narrowed in on specifics, revealing that he’s hoping to put the fight in Madison Square Garden in late 2023.

“That’s what we’re shooting for,” he said. “Hopefully we have a big fight in Madison Square Garden in November, and then a big fight in December.”

Despite a two-year absence and three years since his last win, McGregor is undoubtedly still one of the sport’s top draws. And Chandler is also immensely popular.

We may not know exactly when the fight is going down. But it appears it will happen. And we can’t wait for when it does.
