UFC Legend Daniel Cormier Makes Bold Claim About Stipe Miocic Ahead Of Jon Jones Fight

UFC legend Daniel Cormier was never able to overcome Jon Jones during his time inside the octagon.

But now it seems he is looking to another rival, Stipe Miocic, to handle the job for him.

Cormier and Jones met twice for the light heavyweight title, with Jones walking away victorious each time (though the second was overturned and ruled a no-contest due to a failed drug test).

Cormier then moved up to heavyweight and won the title off of Miocic with a knockout at UFC 226.

But Miocic eventually got his revenge, winning the belt back with TKO at UFC 241 and then closing the trilogy with a unanimous decision victory at UFC 252.

Miocic lost the belt in his next fight with Francis Ngannou at UFC 260 in March of 2021. He hasn’t fought since.

Now, Miocic is set to make his return to the octagon at UFC 295 inside of Madison Square Garden. He’ll square off with Jones for the UFC heavyweight title.

And Cormier says that Miocic could very well walk out with the title.

“I think the best Miocic is in the mid-240s and he’s saying now that he’s back around that weight,” he said on his YouTube channel. “I spoke to someone in the Miocic camp and they told me he’s never looked better. He looks huge, he looks big, he looks strong. Now, is that gonna be enough? I don’t know. I’m just giving you this information. I’m pulling the curtain back so you guys can understand that expect the Stipe Miocic from the title run opposed to the guy we saw later. The small guy, the skinny guy.”

Cormier went to say that he expects Miocic take the fight to Jones, which Ciryl Gane wasn’t able to do in Jones’ heavyweight debut.

“How does my man Jones look in an actual fight?” he asked. “Because he’ll get a fight this time. He’ll have to go rounds. If he doesn’t, boy, if this guy, if either of these guys wipes the other one out it would be jaw-dropping. I would be as shocked as I was when Sean Strickland beat Israel Adesanya.”

It may be a bit of hopium. But Cormier sure sounds all in on Miocic knocking off Jones.
