Following Buckner’s passing there were plenty of touching tributes being posted online celebrating his life and baseball career.
RIP: Bill Buckner, a dignified man who handled his (largely unfair) place in MLB history with uncommon grace, even humor. A whopping 2,715 hits don’t lie. But what also doesn’t lie is the beautiful kinship he shared with Mookie Wilson. The two men together always made me smile. pic.twitter.com/KLOqyZfbXZ

This is not right. My former major leaguers and teammates are slowly moving off into the sunset. I am really upset about Bill Buckner’s passing. He’s another guy I wished I could have played with, not just against. He was a terrific hitter as well as a human being. Tears.

And there this was this weird tribute from Darren Rovell.
Bill Buckner’s death comes with unexpected guilt. The guilt of 8-year-old me, who thanks in part to his error (it’s Calvin Schiraldi & Bob Stanley too) got his only major sports championship (Mets, Jets, Nets, Islanders). Rest In Peace, Bill. I’m sorry my joy came with your pain. pic.twitter.com/P5wbRUAy0u

Rovell got immediately blasted over his strange tribute to Buckner.
I'm sure Bill's family sends their condolences for your pain
