Ahead of the fight, Brobible contributor Kathia Vega sat down with DAZN host Lauren Blake Boultier for her take on this weekend’s card, the rise of influencer boxing, and what it’s like to host a fight week in Miami.
Hi Lauren, You’re hosting the upcoming Misfits Boxing card featuring former UFC champion Henry Cejudo and Euphoria star Javon “Wanna” Walton. What are your thoughts on the fight?
Lauren Blake Boultier: This is a really unusual fight. On one hand, you have a UFC champion and combat-sports legend making his professional boxing debut. On the other, you have a younger professional boxer who also happens to be an Euphoria actor. I feel like Walton is a little underestimated because of the acting. People don’t realize he’s been a professional boxer his whole life. That’s what makes the matchup interesting, and it’s going to be fascinating to see how it plays out.
I’m especially curious how Cejudo approaches this. I don’t think he’s going to treat it like an MMA fighter who just decided to box. I think he’ll try to make it his own. The big question is how he closes the distance when there’s no threat of a takedown. This isn’t wrestling. That’s what I’ll be watching for.
Misfits Boxing is known for being part of the influencer boxing craze. What are your thoughts on the rise of influencer boxing?
It’s funny, because I have personal friends who’ve gone the influencer-boxing route, and they take it extremely seriously. You can tell who’s doing it for views and who’s doing it because they actually want to move into boxing. The influencer résumé follows them either way.
I do think fans love it. They want to see people they’ve followed for years get in the ring and take that journey with them. It’s another level of entertainment. Look at Jake Paul. When I worked the Jake Paul–Anthony Joshua fight, it did 90 million views on Netflix. That’s incredible for someone who started on YouTube and Vine. That fight opened the path for a lot of other influencers who think they can put on the gloves and see what they’re made of.
You’re an advocate for AI. How do you use it to help with your hosting duties?
AI is extremely helpful because it fast-tracks my knowledge of the fighters. If I don’t know everything about Walton, for instance, I don’t have to read through 20 years of coverage. AI can condense that information and give me the most interesting, most reportable details. That helps with the journalism side.
But when it comes to the actual interviews, it still has to stay personal. It’s a human-to-human conversation. The best use is as a tool, not a replacement.
This fight is in Miami. What do you expect from the fans this weekend?
Miami fans go crazy. It’s going to be a wild time. If you’re planning on coming, you absolutely should. If you’re already in the area, get tickets. The main card is so unusual, and the crowd is going to make it that much more electric. Plus, Miami is always on fire. There’s plenty to do outside the fight too.
You’re very fashionable. How are you planning your fits for Miami this week?
The outfits are locked in. I love fashion, so of course they’re pre-planned. I like looks that are vibrant and classy. I’ll choose a few options, go back and forth, then narrow it down. There’s a fine balance between elegance and a little eccentricity. That’s the mix I try to hit.
How do you decide what to wear during fight week?
I try to fit the theme of the fight. If I’m in Texas, I lean into fashion that feels right for there. For Miami, I think Miami Vice: bright colors, beach weather, blue skies, palm trees. I’m leaning into that for sure. You’ll see it this week.
You’re an entrepreneur and own your own business. How does running a brand help you with fight week?
Having your own brand teaches you time management, discipline, and perseverance. It challenges you in the right ways. In a high-stress, high-energy environment like fight week, that gives you stability. It helps you stay grounded and perform at the level you need to without letting the outside noise get to you.
What can fight fans expect this week?
For this fight week, I would say don’t let the resumes like influence your judgment of what this fight is going to look like. This is, like I said, an unusual fight. I think that Walton is going to be— obviously he’s underestimated because of the actor aspect, but I think he’s a great prospect. You know, if you take away the Euphoria actor element and instead you have like, what is it? He’s a 5-time Georgia State champion, 80 amateur fights. He’s undefeated as a professional. I think that it makes this suddenly a very different fight. So to definitely narrow it down, I think that the fans should tune in because it is going to be unusual and it’s going to be extremely entertaining.
