Former US President Donald Trump is the proud owner of the lowest golf handicap of any US President in history.
Some publications list his GHIN index (official handicap) at 2.8 but I looked in the GHIN app and Donald Trump, member at the Winged Foot Club, currently boasts a 2.5 Handicap Index. That said, he hasn’t entered a score since June 2021 when he shot a 79. His lowest score in the GHIN app is 70 tha the shot in August 2013.
Biden is the next best US President golfer with an Index of 6.7 but he similarly hasn’t posted a fresh round score in a long time. His last posted score was in 2018. JFK rounds out the top 3 with an index of 7. And Barry Obama shares that his index is “an honest 13” so he’s well behind the pack.
As a great golfer, Donald Trump has been known to hit some great golf shots. But it also makes his shanks more surprising than say if I, an honest 15 index, were to shank a ball like this.

Trump shanked the ball from the left-side fairway across the fairway and into the bushes on the other side of the course. An all-time shankapottomus shot right here. Personally, I’d say it’s a bold decision to lay up from 10 yards off the green but he’s a better golfer than I am so I’ll trust his decision-making skills here.
People were letting the jokes fly fast and loose on Twitter. They wrote:
“Probably still had a birdie.”
“‘What did you have on that hole, Mr Trump?’ ‘Put me down for a 2.'”
“Probably only shot 4 under instead of 5 under. It happens to the best of us.”
“But it was the best, hyugest shank.”
If I was playing with my dad he’d tell me to do this:
“$10 says he dropped another ball or just dropped one on the green and putted for par.”
Ba-dum-tss.
“Mis-hit it way too far off to the right … that’s what they call a DeSantis shot.”
“It’s the best shank you’ve ever seen, nobody shanks it better than me.”
Honestly, I wish I had a video of me shanking the ball on the course that I could share alongside Donald Trump’s disastrous shot. Alas, I’m typically the guy who pulls out the club on the course to film my friends shanking it and not the other way around.
The fact of the matter is every golfer shanks the ball at some point. Tiger Woods himself isn’t immune to shanks. So while we can all laugh at Donald Trump shanking the ever-loving-stink off that ball, it doesn’t change the fact that he’s probably still a pretty good golfer, better than me, at least.
