Saturday’s uber-hyped showdown between Duke and the University of North Carolina marked the end of an era in Durham, as Mike Krzyzewski’s time patrolling the sidelines at Cameron Indoor Stadium came to an end after a storied 42 seasons with the program.
Most of the ticketholders who shelled out a truly absurd amount of money to attend Coach K’s final home game walked away disappointed, as the Tar Heels put a bit of a damper on the festivities by coming away with the victory by a score of 94-81.
The win was an especially sweet one for a UNC squad that got whomped by the Blue Devils in the 87-67 loss they suffered when the rivals faced off in Chapel Hill back in February (as well as the many avowed Duke Haters who were treated to a heaping serving of schadenfreude).
There’s a chance we could get a rematch between the two blue bloods in the ACC Tournament later this week, and if that ends up being the case, we should be in for a treat thanks to the bad blood that’s continued to boil thanks to a very petty issue that has many college basketball fans gleefully mocking Duke yet again.
Following Saturday’s game, we were treated to the season’s latest handshake-related controversy after one of Duke’s assistant coaches declined to exchange formal pleasantries with UNC head coach Hubert Davis.
It turns out tensions have been simmering since the aforementioned game on the Tar Heel’s home turf, as an article ESPN published last week claimed the Blue Devils were apparently very salty after their foremost foe declined to join the slew of college basketball programs that lauded Coach K with praise and adoration over the course of his farewell tour.
That report gained new legs in the wake of the weekend’s loss, and people seized on the opportunity to dunk all over Duke for pulling the Most Duke Move possible.

It's cool to do a year-long vanity exercise if you want. Lots of K's players clearly love him, and if anyone earned vanity, he did. But being mad that others aren't participating is weird. I think the Jeter thing a few years back raised expectations too much https://t.co/UJqSs4tKdO

This is so insanely soft from Chris Carrawell. You're a 44-year old man, dude.
As for the 2nd part, you have to be careful with "suggestions," but that is so incredibly weak if Dookies really took offense to UNC not bending the knee enough to Coach K in Chapel Hill. pic.twitter.com/0W0RQvDBHU
