Very few, if any, student sections are as rowdy as the Cameron Crazies. Duke basketball faithful are positioned right on top of the court and never fail to make themselves heard.

They’re loud, they’re proud and they’re ruthless.

Prior to every game, one honorable student takes on a very important task. He or she researches the opponent, essentially stalks their players through social media, and puts together a list of everything that he or she can find.

The cheat sheet could include anything from a favorite food, to a high school ex-girlfriend, to an embarrassing photo from a player’s childhood, to an incriminating tweet from younger years. It is incredibly detailed and takes more work than you might think.

It’s quite the process. Scrolling back through multiple years of social media profiles for multiple players can take a few hours to really get it right.

Thus, the effort should not go under-appreciated. However, it is very cringeworthy after a loss.

When Duke wins, the student cheer/heckle guide is very detailed and impressive. When Duke loses, it’s awkward and embarrassing. It’s a dual-edged sword.

On Monday, it was the latter.

The Blue Devils lost to the Virginia by one point in the closing moments. The cheat sheet was unsuccessful.

After the buzzer, the Cameron Crazies’ cheat sheet from the UVA game made its way onto Twitter and went viral. Many people considered it to be cringeworthy, especially after the loss, but it is impressive nonetheless. It is as detailed as it can be and gives the students as much ammo as possible.

Obviously, after a loss, the jokes are somewhat cringe inducing. But if the script was flipped and Duke had won, it would be deserving of praise— even though it still is in defeat.
