Ohio State needs a new running backs coach and Eddie George was considered to be one of the top candidates for the job. However, the former Big Ten MVP is not interested.
He pulled the ultimate bro move while shutting down the speculation.
George, 50, is entering his fourth season as the head coach at Tennessee State and seems to be building a competitive college football program in Nashville. The Tigers are historically pretty bad, especially since the turn of the millennium, but there is a new energy with the Oilers and Titans legend at the helm. Even though the wins are still hard to come by, his 6-5 season in 2023 was considered a big step in the right direction.
As a result, George does not want to leave his post as a head coach in a city that he has called home since 1996 for a lesser role at his alma mater. He is content.
Eddie George is looking out for his people.
George made it abundantly clear that he is not going anywhere while speaking to longtime Buckeyes reporter Tim May. In doing so, the former Heisman Trophy winner teed up two of his own for the opening in Columbus.

A head football coach typically would not want to lose one of his position coaches. George is different.
He told May that his current running backs coach, Josh Crawford, would love the opportunity to serve in the same role for Ohio State. He also encouraged the program to take a look at Pepe Pearson!
Pearson served as the backup to Eddie George early in college and ultimately served as his successor. The 48-year-old coached running backs on the Tennessee State staff in 2021 and 2022, and currently serves as the associate head coach at Tarleton State.
Even though Pearson left George’s staff prior to last season, the latter continues to look out for the former. Even though Crawford is currently employed on George’s staff, the latter continues to look out for the former. That’s love!
