Edgar Berlanga has some strong praise for Dana White.
Earlier this year, Berlanga left Matchroom Boxing and signed under White’s Zuffa Boxing banner.
Ahead of his July 26th fight against Steven Butler at Madison Square Garden, we spoke to Berlanga about why he decided to sign with Zuffa Boxing.
According to Berlanga, he saw what White was doing for UFC fighters and believed he could do the same for boxers as well.
“Dana White is an excellent promoter. I feel like what he’s done in the UFC, he could do that in boxing too, and that’s just with the branding and just putting fighters in position to make big fights happen, ad that’s exactly what we want. Everything I wanted, everything I’ve asked for, he was down for it. He was like, let’s do it, let’s make it happen.”
Berlanga praised White for sticking with fighters who have losses on their records.
“One thing I like about Dana is that is how he deals with fighters that have losses, I feel like a lot of promoters when a fighter has losses or a couple losses, they push them to the side, And with Dana, I feel like you see all these UFC guys, they got 7 losses, 5 losses, 6 losses, and you know, they’re still superstars in the UFC. It’s supposed to be the same way for us boxers.”
“I’m just blessed and highly favored that Dana sees the stardom. He came and said, listen, you’re gonna be headlining Madison Square Garden once again, because he knows at the end of the day even coming off a loss, he knows I’m still the biggest name that’s talked about in boxing, I tip my hat off to him for that. And I appreciate him and Nick Khan and Paramount TV.”

After Shakur Stevenson announced he was signing with Zuffa Boxing, Berlanga predicts more big-name fighters will sign with the new promotion.
“It’s a growing promotion now. They see me, they see Richardson, they see Shakur now is on board. You know what I’m saying? You’re probably gonna see Devin Haney signing. There’s gonna be a lot of big names now coming to Zuffa. I feel like I took the leap of faith, and now you see Shakur there.. Now that Shakur’s there, I feel like Devin’s gonna jump on board, and a lot of other big names in the sport is going to jump on board just because, you know, they see the big fighters signing with Zuffa.”
