Eli Apple is not good at football. It’s a statement that shouldn’t cause much controversy. There can’t have been anybody who watched Apple in this year’s playoffs and thought “I want that guy on my team next year”.
In fact, I lost track of how many pictures of toast I received this postseason in response to Apple’s coverage. Still, it would appear there is at least one person on this planet that is having trouble dealing with the reality of Eli Apple’s football talents.
Annie Apple, Eli’s mother, saw a tweet from NFL correspondent Annie Agar, best known for her weekly NFL meeting videos, and did not take too kindly to Agar’s opinion of her son. She threw some major shade at Agar in response to what seemed like a pretty harmless joke about Eli Apple’s inability to cover the LA Rams’ receivers.

I have to say, it’s not exactly the most impressive clap back. “Yeah, well you catch a lot of balls” isn’t the most clever retort to begin with, but even worse, it doesn’t even make sense in this context.
The issue at hand is not Eli Apple’s inability to catch balls. Instead, it is the fact that just about any receiver he covers seems to catch a lot of balls.
In fact, I’m not in contact with these streets that supposedly know about Annie Agar’s personal life, but if she is in fact catching a lot of balls, in the context of this conversation, we’d have to assume she was being covered by Eli Apple.
Maybe next we’ll see Annie Apple actually address one of the receivers who roasted Apple instead of just making balls jokes about female football corespondents.
