Duke head coach Jon Scheyer was absolutely livid with ACC official Eric Lewis during Saturday’s college basketball game against Notre Dame. Unfortunately, the official was unable to handle the criticism and made himself look extremely soft.
Not only did he issue a technical foul for Scheyer’s tirade, he ejected a student from the crowd for using profanity.
The whole thing started with a questionable charge call on superstar freshman Cooper Flagg. The Fighting Irish defender did not appear to set his feet before he got run over. It could’ve been a block or it could’ve been a no call but it was not a charge. Scheyer agrees.
The hobbit wearing 41 for Notre Dame does not want the smoke from Cooper Flagg or Jon Scheyer lmao https://t.co/YJ3J544h9Y pic.twitter.com/wgVKUQ3ets

He proceeded to storm out onto center court to give ACC referee Eric Lewis a piece of his mind. The 37-year-old head coach went ballistic.
YES, LOVE a fired up Coach Jon Scheyer…you fight for your guys!! Love this from our coach!! 🥵😤🙌🏼😅 pic.twitter.com/5CgsqNpE0Z

Jon Scheyer is relatively even-tempered compared to other hot-headed college basketball coaches but when he is angry, nobody is safe. Especially if his frustration stems from the officials. We saw that play out on Saturday. Lewis was the target of the verbal assault and issued a technical foul.
That in itself was not an issue because Scheyer deserved to be T’d up for his behavior. What happened next is truly outrageous.
A Duke student yelled “F— YOU!” at Eric Lewis from the crowd. The referee heard the chirp come from the Cameron Crazies and had the aforementioned student removed from the game. She was not allowed to return to the arena.
Lewis has a controversial past. He was forced to retire from the NBA after allegedly creating a burner account to defend himself on social media. This latest incident is, unfortunately, right on brand.
It cannot be the first time Lewis has heard someone use those words to address him. Students in particular are ruthless, especially toward the officials. The supposedly problematic language that led to a fan ejection on Saturday is nothing. Far worse things have been said!
Eric Lewis still had his feelings hurt so he went on a power trip and made it all about himself. That is exactly what we don’t need from our officials. Shame!
