Evolution Of The Male Physique — A Look At How Mr. Olympia Bodybuilding Bodies Have Changed Over Time

The 2017 Mr. Olympia will be crowned this week with Joe Weider’s Olympia bodybuilding competition kicking off today. This is the ‘Super Bowl of Bodybuilding’, and it crowns the fittest bodies on the planet.

The 2017 Mr. Olympia bodybuilding competition starts today in Las Vegas and runs September 14-17. At the end of the 4-day bodybuilding contest, a Mr. Olympia will be crowned. Mr. Olympia is said to have the best bodybuilding body in the world, but that definition of ‘best’ has changed drastically over the years.

This clip above was uploaded last night to Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s YouTube channel, and it shows how the Mr. Olympia physique has evolved over time. I guess it’s important for me to mention here that the Mr. Olympia competition not only crowns an actual Mr. Olympia, but there are also categories for a Fitness Olympia, Figure Olympia, Bikini Olympia, 212 Olympia, Women’s Physique Olympia, Men’s Physique Olympia, and Classic Physique Olympia. Each category has a distinct ‘show build’ in mind that isn’t all that different from what you see in show dog competitions with each breed of dog having a ‘breed standard’ by which they are judged.
