Since being released by the Dallas Cowboys earlier this offseason, Ezekiel Elliott has had just one visit with another team. Those being the New England Patriots.

Dallas has appeared ready to move on from their former star running back. Especially after signing Ronald Jones to compete for carries as a backup.

However, Jones received a two-game suspension for alleged PED violations, putting the Cowboys in a tough spot.

Now, it sounds like owner Jerry Jones is open to bringing Elliott back home to Dallas.

According to Pro Football Talk, Jones isn’t ruling out the possibility of bringing Ezekiel Elliott back to the Cowboys. “Jones said the team is ‘reading the tea leaves’ when asked about Elliott and that ‘he’s not ruled out at all’ as an option to return to Dallas.

This all could be a perfect storm for a possible reunion. However, Elliott may have to accept a backup role this time around.

Sure, he was a monster in the red zone last season with 12 touchdowns. But his rushing numbers were the worst of his career.

Additionally, Tony Pollard has looked phenomenal since last season and should be the primary runner out of the backfield.

With Ronald Jones suspended two games and Malik Davis still learning the ropes, the Cowboys may consider re-signing Ezekiel Elliott.

It might not be a bad setup though. Pollard can carry the workload while Elliott helps with short yardage situations. That duo could give the Cowboys the firepower they need to run the ball efficiently.

With that said, it’s probably time to keep a tab on Ezekiel Elliott and the Cowboys, as the team has a need and the former superstar running back can fill it.
